UPDATE (12/5/17): According to Major Tex Ellis at the Salvation Army, you generously donated 185,657 food items during this year’s food drive! That’s over 53 full pallets of food! That broke last year’s (2016) record of 178,920 items. Incredible!
Well, another Bob Skaggs Memorial Food Drive is in the books & it was a great one! Thank you to every person, organization and business who donated to this year’s food drive. We filled up 5 U-Haul trucks PLUS an 18 Wheeler trailer full of food to help local families through the Salvation Army’s Food Pantry in 2018.
Your Hometown Radio Stations – 93.1 KMKT, 97.5 KLAK and Mad Rock 102.5 – are excited to bring you our 21st Annual Bob Skaggs Memorial Food Drive – presented by Tyson Foods, Serenity Best Home Health & Lankford Roofing – Monday, November 20th through Wednesday, November 22nd!
This year we celebrate 21 years of helping local families have enough food to eat through the Salvation Army of Grayson County’s food pantry. Last year we set a new record for donations and, with your help, we know we can break that record again!
So, please get with your family, neighbors & co-workers now and start collecting your canned goods, other non-perishable items & cash donations. That way you can bring them all to us as we broadcast LIVE from the Wal-Mart Super Center in Sherman (Hwys 75 & 82) for the two & a half days before Thanksgiving. We’re keeping the EXTENDED hours we had last year to give you more time to bring your donations to us. We’ll accept your donations from 6am-8pm on Monday, November 20th & Tuesday, November 21st and from 6am-Noon on Wednesday, November 22nd.
The 21st Annual Bob Skaggs Memorial Food Drive is also brought to you in part by:
Texoma Dermatology Clinic
Caring Bridge Home Health Care
The Frosted Shoppe
Texoma Educators Federal Credit Union
Center for Family Medicine
So, what kinds of non-perishable food & other items are needed? Here’s that info from our friends at the Salvation Army of Grayson County:
Every year the Salvation Army in Grayson County serves more than 15,000 pounds of food each month through meals to the homeless and food pantry operations. An estimated 22% of our neighbors in Grayson County don’t know where their next meal is coming from. The amount of food provided to each household depends upon the household size, the ages of household members, and special nutritional needs of the household. When available personal care and household supplies are also included. The KMKT/KLAK/KMAD Bob Skaggs Memorial Food Drive is the largest food drive benefiting the Salvation Army in the State of Texas. Each and every item received in this food drive stays in Grayson County. Here is a list of the things we try to put into bags for every household:
Canned Veggies including peas, spinach, carrots, green beans, corn and mixed vegetables
Mac & Cheese Box Dinners
Specialty Items Most Often Requested:
Condiments (in general)
Feminine Hygiene Items
Shave Cream/Disposable Razors
Diapers, size 2—6
