The 8th annual Heroes for Children 5K Run/Walk will be held on Saturday, September 15th at The Shops at Legacy in Plano, TX. Heroes for Children, based in Richardson, provides financial and social assistance to families in the state of Texas with a child battling cancer. Since its inception in 2004, Heroes for Children has provided more than four million dollars to more than 3,000 families in the state of Texas.
The HFC 5K is held in September to recognize and promote Childhood Cancer Awareness Month within the community. WFAA Senior Reporter Steve Stoler will serve as the emcee for the event. The event festivities begin with the Opening Ceremonies with Phil Dyer, City of Plano Mayor, issuing a Mayoral Proclamation marking Sept. 15, 2012 as Childhood Cancer Awareness Day in Plano. A balloon release to commemorate the more than 900 families served in 2011 will follow. Following the 1K Family Fun Run and 5K Run/Walk, participants can enjoy entertainment and activities for the entire family, including prizes and awards, giveaways, face painting, bounce houses, music, and more.
Registration is available online at www.heroesforchildren.org/5k for individuals, and teams. Registration is $25 for adults, $15 for kids with race timing and $12 for kids 14 and under. All participants will receive a t-shirt. Participants who raise a minimum of $150 will have their entry fee waived. Event day registration begins at 6:30 a.m.
