Sherman Firefighters Fill-the-Boot for MDA

Professional Fire Fighters of Sherman and the Muscular Dystrophy Association will partner in the fight against neuromuscular diseases during the annual Fill the Boot campaign on August  9 from 5-9pm &  August  10 from 9AM-5PM . Firefighters can be found filling the boot for MDA at the Sherman Town Center! All fire companies will be in service and available for calls.  These are off duty Firefighters on a volunteer basis.

Firefighters across the country are the top contributors to MDA; having raised more than $475 million since becoming a supporter in 1954. In 2012, Texas firefighters led the country- collecting more than $3.5 million for MDA; with Professional Fire Fighters of Sherman contributing over $7,000 just  2 days- thanks to the generous support of local citizens.

Funds raised by the Professional Fire Fighters of Sherman, as well as the dozens of other area departments who participate in the Fill The Boot campaign, benefit nearly 3,000 families affected by neuromuscular disease. More than 76 cents of every dollar raised by MDA supporters, like firefighters, goes directly to direct services and research. MDA has invested more than $12.4 million in research funding in Texas over the last 5 years. During the same time period, MDA has provided more than $12.1 million in services to individuals living in Texas. Please join us in promoting this 58-year tradition of supporting MDA through Fill the Boot.

MDA clinics serving the Dallas-Fort Worth area include The University of Texas Southwestern Medical Center, Children’s Medical Center of Dallas, Texas Neurology, Cook  Children’s Medical Center Fort Worth and Neurology Associates of Arlington.  Other vital services include support group sessions, assistance with the repair of durable medical equipment and the children’s favorite: summer camp!

MDA is a voluntary health agency working to defeat more than 43 neuromuscular diseases through global research, comprehensive client services and health education. In Oklahoma and Texas, MDA offers 4 summer camps, over 20 support groups and clinics, and more than $1 million in research grants to state hospitals and universities, including Southwest Medical Center.
