Hope Rising and McKinney Repertory Theatre collecting items and donations to support Hope’s Door during shutdown

McKINNEY, TEXAS (October 9, 2013): With the government shutdown affecting a variety of non-profit social service agencies in North Texas, McKinney Repertory Theatre and Hope Rising are teaming up to collect essential needs items for Hope’s Door, Collin County’s only domestic violence shelter. Hope’s Door opened in 1986 with only a hotline and motel rooms to shelter victims, expanding in 1989 with a dedicated shelter and serving over 6,000 women and children in need of safety since that time.

Funding for Hope’s Door is on hold during the shutdown of the federal government, which affects their ability to purchase items necessary for shelter residents. They are in need of the following essentials: full-size hair shampoo and conditioner, deodorant, toilet paper and cleaning supplies. Donations of gift cards for Wal-Mart, Target and gas cards are also needed.

Hope Rising will set up a collection point for these items during the final weekend of McKinney Repertory Theatre’s production of Neil Simon’s The (Female) Odd Couple.  Performances are at 8:00 p.m. on October 11 & 12 and 2:00 pm on October 13 at the McKinney Performing Arts Center, 111 N. Tennessee St., McKinney TX 75069.
