Comanche High School Hosts Blood Drive – April 2

March 24, 2014 ─ Oklahoma Blood Institute (OBI) and Comanche High School are teaming up to save the lives of those in local hospitals.  A blood drive will be held in the band room, Wednesday, April 2, 7 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. Those who are healthy and 16 years* or older are encouraged to donate.

Each donor will receive a “FEEL BOLD” T-shirt, free health screenings and Donor Rewards Points. Blood donors can choose to forgo the T-shirt. Then, funds designated for this item will be contributed to Global Blood Fund, a nonprofit that supports struggling blood centers abroad.

Donors with OBI provide every drop of blood needed by patients in Duncan Regional Hospital and some 140 other medical facilities across the state. One in every seven people entering a hospital will need blood. There is no substitute for human blood, and it has a limited time for use.  That is why some 600 donors are needed each day, according to OBI.

Of those eligible to donate blood in the U.S., only about ten percent actually do. Each donation can save as many as three lives. Donations can be made every 56 days.

Appointment to donate are not required but can be made by calling 877-340-8777 or visiting obi.org.

* 16 year olds must weigh at least 125 pounds and provide signed parental permission, 17 year olds must weigh at least 125 pounds, 18+ year olds must weigh at least 110 pounds.
