Rita Kotey

Rita Kotey came to KXII-TV as a reporter in October 2008. Since then she has joined the First News AM team with Abby Powell and Tom Miller. She says waking up bright and early every morning to bring the news that matters to you is a true joy!
Rita comes to Texoma from Huntsville, Alabama. She spent her collegiate years at Tennessee State University in Nashville. She graduated with a Bachelors of Science degree in Speech Communications and Theatre.
Rita is no stranger to news operations across the country. She has worked and interned for WSMV in Nashville, Tennessee, WEIU-TV in Charleston, Illinois, and WAFF48 News in Huntsville, Alabama.
Rita is a true lover of the stage! Watching and performing musicals and plays is one of her favorite pastimes. She also enjoys music, spoken word, and spending time at church.

Abby Powell

Abby Powell co-anchors First News AM with Rita Kotey & Tom Miller and loves bringing news to you each day after spending several years in the entertainment business.
Raised in Grove City, Ohio, Abby went to Belmont University in Nashville, Tennessee where she graduated cum laude with her Bachelors in music. She then traveled the world for many years, performing/singing in regional theatre, theme park, cruise ship, and US touring shows. From debuting a role in an off-broadway musical in NYC to living in Japan while doing shows at Tokyo Disney, her travels around the world intensified her interest in people, events and news.
The daughter of two former English teachers, she has always had a passion for writing. She loves to shoot, write, and edit stories, from breaking news to feature stories for Moms Everyday segments on Mondays and Fridays.
Abby and her boyfriend, Travis, call Sherman home and enjoy experiencing everything the area has to offer, especially spending time at Lake Texoma with their puppy, Rudy!
