Many of us make 1 or 2 New Year’s resolutions and are super psyched about how these changes will affect our lives. The problem comes in the months and weeks, sometimes even days after we have made our declaration when old patterns derail us and keep us from attaining our goals.
Let’s face it change can be a challenge, so follow a few simple guideline to achieve the success you are longing for this year. First single out the most pressing problem you are facing, maybe to quit smoking or to lose weight. Second, come up with a concrete plan of action and break it down... For example if you need to lose 30 pounds, chunk it down and view it as a monthly goal so you are not overwhelmed, instead of focusing on that big number of 30 pounds, you are just working on losing 2-3 pounds a month, then set a plan in place for how to achieve that smaller goal like walking 2 miles a day and say choosing fruit for your mid-day snack instead of candy or chips. Next place reminders on your calendar or a chart on your refrigerator this will keep your goal in the forefront of your mind. Having a buddy can be helpful too so share your goal with a trusted friend and agree to check in for results on a weekly basis.
If you experience setbacks, don’t get down about them just renew your resolve and know that persistence is the key to success. Take a realistic look at where you’d like to be in 2012, and make a concrete plan to achieve success!
