Cinco de Mayo is this weekend!!! Sunday to be exact (if you can’t count), and while you will probably be celebrating by drinking margs and eating tacos, do you know WHY?

Only about 10% of people know WHY Cindo de Mayo is a holiday. A recent survey gave people a multiple answers on WHY Cinco de Mayo is a holiday, and the correct answer came in LAST.

Here is the order of answers:

  1. 39% said it’s Mexican Independence Day, but it’s not . . . that’s September 16th
  2. 26% said it’s a general celebration of Mexican-American culture
  3. 13% said it’s a day for DRINKING
  4. 13% admitted they just had no idea

The reason Cinco de Mayo is a holiday? It’s the anniversary of Mexico’s victory over France in the Battle of Puebla on May 5th, 1862.
