- A new hashtag has been trending on Twitter lately, and it might leave you a little confused. #FreeBritney became viral after well-meaning fans of Britney Spears starting positing their concerns about the pop princess’ health, reports E! News. Earlier this month, Britney posted that she was checking herself into a mental health facility to help her deal with her father’s illness that almost killed him. She posted on Instagram on April 3rd that she was taking some “me time.” Following the news, fans and loved ones praised Spears for recognizing that she needed to seek help. Now, Britney had a meltdown back in 2007, where she was hospitalized, and then made her dad, Jamie Spears, and lawyer, Andrew Wallet, co-conservators of her. So why is everyone freaking out about Britney now? Turns out, fans find it odd that Britney had been posting less and less on social media before her “me time” announcement. Adding fuel to the fire, a podcast dedicated to all things Britney added an “emergency'” episode with details about Spears’ treatment they received from an anonymous tipster.
